Connecting all of Delta through the power of philanthropy.
Caring. Compassionate. Community.
Welcome to the Delta Community Foundation.
We are committed to improving the lives of everyone across Delta through the power of giving. We have returned $1.2 million to the community through grants, scholarships and bursaries. We’ve supported people and organizations from North Delta, Ladner and Tsawwassen who are dedicated to making Delta a better place for us all.
Find out why we’re called Delta’s “charity for charities” and how your gifts can keep on giving, forever, to the charities and causes you care about the most.
What is a Community Foundation?
By definition a Community Foundation is a nonprofit that collects donations to fund local projects and charities, improving the community.
But what does that exactly mean?
Community Foundations leverage community knowledge, data, relationships, and funding through grant making, impact investing and strategic initiatives.
Community Foundations are unique. We give grants the same way other foundations do, but we grant funds provided by donors who are typically in our community.
So how does it work?
- Donors provide funds: Individual donors in the community provide funding to us. They do this through direct, unrestricted donations or by using a donor advised fund.
- Nonprofits apply for support: Similar to other foundations, nonprofits apply for support through grant applications. Sometimes these applications focus on specific projects, while other times they ask for general support of an organization’s ongoing programs.
- Community Foundation grant committee members review proposals: The grant committee reviews grant proposals from nonprofits operating in Delta. Projects and initiatives are chosen based on the needs of the Delta community that are in alignment with our mission.
Community Foundations themselves are not the object of most donors’ philanthropy, but are the vehicle by which donors can fulfill their charitable objectives.
