Magic Pencil Project starts again this autumn

Home / Foundation News / Magic Pencil Project starts again this autumn

North Delta Rotary Club’s Magic Pencil program helps the growing number of North Delta families who struggle paying for their children’s back-to-school expenses such as school supplies.

The pilot program was launched a year ago with funding from the Delta Community Foundation’s Community Prosperity Fund. School supplies cost parents an average of $100 for each child enrolled in elementary school and $150 for each youth studying in secondary schools.

If nearly 600 kids enrolled in 14 Delta elementary schools are food insecure, their families also struggle to pay for their children’ school supplies and winter clothing.

Magic Pencil creates an annual fund for each elementary and secondary school, so that teachers can purchase supplies on behalf of children as required.
